" "'The Elves, sir. We had some talk last night; they seemed to know you were going away, so I didn't see the use of denying it. Wonderful folk, Elves, sir! Wonderful!'
'They are', said Frodo. 'Do you like them still, now you have had a close view?'
'They seem a bit above my likes and dislikes, so to speak,' answered Same slowly. 'It don't seem to matter what I think about them. They are quite different from what I expected - so old and young, and so gay and sad, as it were.'" "
From the book The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien
been wanting to draw Legolas for a long long time, but i was always afraid of butchering him when i draw him > < but i finally did it! not exactly happy but at least he looks alright...
well anyway, i was trying to capture the "so old and young, and so gay and sad, as it were." part. I really like that passage, it has stuck to me for a long while because it does really describes what the elves are since they've gone through so much and they can never die so it makes them both old and young as well as sad and happy.
mm, quick sketch and coloring i guess...he had clothes on before...but somehow it looked better off. >///< and in this case, it seems like Legolas is quietly observing the young joyful hobbits and feeling rather old himself. haha.
